Cleaning and Exams

White Teeth Preventive dental health care is a key part of our practice. Many dental problems can be minimized if caught early. Regular check-ups help detect early signs of gum disease, cavities, or oral cancer. Most insurance companies cover preventive care in order to avoid more costly procedures. Another reason to keep up your regular cleanings is to keep your breath fresh; many complaints of persistent bad breath are caused by dental problems.

Your cleaning appointment includes periodontal charting (which checks for signs of periodontitis, also known as gum disease), an oral cancer screening, observation of jaw function, and checking for cavities. The hygienist will take x-rays to get images of the teeth and bone structure and do a thorough cleaning, which includes flossing and polishing your teeth. We recommend that most of our patients get a dental cleaning every 6 months to help keep a bright, healthy smile. (414) 483-1600
